Life is full of uncertainties but we can't keep letting it hold us back,
we need to learn to let go and find the thing that keeps us going.

At times, past events or experiences may come back and haunt us, trying to force itself as a regret rather than just another memory. And it makes you wonder if you're on the right track, or just wandered back to square one. Sometimes it makes you feel inadequate, like you don't deserve better, because of how brutal people can be with their words and actions. If there is anything I learnt, is that people are beautiful in their own ways (well, most people anyway) and just like how we wouldn't say or do something hurtful to someone else, we shouldn't do it to ourselves too. There is much love to give but so much self loathing. Sure, there are times when we do drown in the toxic and negativity from situations or other people. But there comes a point where we have to snap out of it because it is damaging - all the hurtful self questioning and ridiculous expectations we place on ourselves. I'm not going to be righteous about this because even I'm still learning to love myself enough to know that I deserve better.

Doesn't matter if people do not understand and throw judgements around because I think I know better than them what I should do with my life. And if you really are so free to bring others down, use the time to ponder if your life is that great. Because chances are, you're in your own bubble, which people honestly ain't got time for. Everyone has different standards of love and forgiveness and just because I don't see things your way, it doesn't necessarily mean that I am wrong. If I deem i deserve better, I will fight for it, if i'm not, i'll make sure I become worthy. Right now, I'm perfectly happy and people who understand will be happy too.

There are never regrets, just lessons to be learnt. So take chances and give yourself chances - to fail, to fall, to be happy, to be loved.

Fridate at Whisk & Paddle and Oblong.
Quiet and relaxing atmosphere and good food plus the best ice cream waffle combi.
(or maybe I'm just biased because I had the best company. Try it for yourself!)
Even though it was really cloudy and drizzly, the walk along the waterway was really nice and breezy. So refreshing to be somewhere serene for a change.

Seafood pasta and miso cod.
Seafood was really fresh (the prawns were crunchy and sweet) and pasta was done just right, with tomato sauce that wasn't too tangy.
Cod was fleshy and juicy paired with the miso was just the right amount of sweet and salty. The mash was on point and don't even get me started on the lotus chips (I could eat a whole basket of it)

Looking for turtles

Red velvet waffles with earl grey ice cream at Oblong.
This place has some pretty cool deco and details but I was too busy savouring the waffle (oops)
Hidden in Serangoon gardens, among all the awesome food, it can be easy to miss. But honestly I think it beats the other ice cream places there. The cream cheese between the waffles was absolute heaven. Even though I'm not that big of an ice cream fan, I'm definitely going to be craving for this (and quite often - what is diet anyway?)

Chasing the blues away

Monday, August 10, 2015 Unknown 0 Comments

We constantly observe people's behaviours and sometimes it makes us lose faith in humanity and question ourselves. In turn, we are conscious of how others and society observe our own actions. That's how we let pride get in the way of things. But what do we really get by being stubborn and not wanting to take a step back? Is it worth it destroying everything for the sake of keeping some pride?

Most of the time we get lost in our own lives, giving excuses of being busy with work and going out with friends, that we neglect family time. We take for granted the things our family does for us and forget to show appreciation. Life has its ups and downs but there are always people who care enough to make sacrifices for you to grow into a better person. More often than not, we find it frustrating to have to deal with it. But it comes from a good place. We just have to learn to understand where they are coming from and that it's meant to help us be better versions of ourselves, not hurtful criticisms.

Treasuring whatever little time I have with the people that I love and letting myself take chances again. Because even though there are bad people in this world, not everyone is. If anything we should be warmer to one another and not try to escape from everything.

Dinner at Lei Garden, still my all time favourite place since childhood. Literally fall in love again and again with the food. Try dim sum and their double boiled soups - if you could have a taste of heaven, that'll be it. Plus, it is located in Chijmes, so you can take a stroll and bask in the atmosphere or hit one of the bars. Not the cheapest, but definitely worth the value for the quality. (like a mini celebration for my tummy) Always a happy memory here.

I don't eat sharks fin because I think it is cruel (I know the killing of other plants and animals are too, but I think I can't do without them - don't judge) Take the pledge to stop consumption of shark fins here (if you think you can do without)

Cool Blues @ Salon vim

Sunday, August 09, 2015 Unknown 0 Comments

Gone with the Blues this summer

In an attempt to salvage my hair, my cousins recommended Salon Vim. It being pretty popular, I've heard about it a couple of times but never really got to try it. Over some talks about hair, the cousins decided to have a hair date and so I got my hair did! (Fabulous hair flips)

We made an appointment under Sham. He's really good with advising what is good for your hair and the amount of languages he can speak - really damn zai (pro) also, he's super gentle with your hair (none of that tugging and pulling- which is awesome because I already have close to none to pull). I really had no idea how to salvage my hair, which was dry and bleached in patches. Even though I was skeptical and afraid I couldn't pull it off, I think it turned out really great and I'm glad I left my hair in his hands. He recommended that I dye my hair in cool tones and I love it. It's a mix of blue, turquoise and grey - which is so much more interesting and dimensional than just having it in one flat colour. Now my hair is no longer patchy and the blue will kill the yellow from the bleach. Yay because it's not going to fade and leave my hair looking like Maggi Mee. I also did a treatment for my hair and it hasn't felt so gloriously smooth in a really long while (yep, all that bleaching ain't good yo). But no pain no gain right? ;)

Getting the blue in there (I was honestly quite scared about how it would turn out)
UFO treatment
healthy hair goddess

bouncy curls that felt air light (so great to beat the heat)
us with fab hair

I don't have silky soft tresses, but here's how I manage my hair:

1. Shampoo and wash with warm water and conditioner wash with cold water
2. When my hair starts to feel like hay, I use hair mask in place of conditioner and let it sit while I do other stuff (like wash my face, brush my teeth)
3. I use The Body Shop's Bilberry colour protect detangler spray and Tangle Teezer comb (start from the bottom and work your way to the top so your hair doesn't get pulled out as much)
4. Apply leave in conditioner. I use Aveda's colour protect serum after baths and Moroccan oil on top of it if it's still dry.
5. Let your stylist know not to use the thinning scissors (the ones with the comb edge on one side) when getting a hair cut because I find that its really bad on the ends of your hair
6. Leave it to dry naturally (avoid the heat from hair dryers and hair styling tools as much as possible)
7. Aloe Vera gel or organic coconut oil works great for fine or thinning hair (natural but long-term)
8. Tie up your hair when the wind is really strong to prevent split ends
9. But don't tie it too tight
10. Snack on superfoods for hair (tomatoes, blueberries, walnuts)
